Heritage & Conservation Trades

Not software. Not a generic consultant.

A tradesperson writes it, because he's done it.

Docket writes the RAMS, method statements, COSHH assessments and condition records heritage trades need to get on site. Written by someone who's actually mixed the mortar, not just specified it — not a consultant reading a spec sheet, not an app generating a template.

If Any Of This Sounds Familiar

The paperwork costs you more than the hour it takes.

I

The evening tax

A full day on site, then you're not clocking off — you're sat writing paperwork you never trained for, for a job that already wore you out.

II

The blank page

The templates you'll find are built for steel‑frame new‑build, not a listed building, so you're guessing at what a conservation officer wants to see.

III

Getting bounced

A principal contractor reads it, spots it's generic, sends it back. Now the start date's slipped and you're rewriting it anyway — on top of everything else.

IV

Signing something you're not sure of

It's your name on the document. If you're not confident it's actually right, that's a real worry to carry onto site — not just an admin job.

What Actually Arrives

Not a Word template with your logo pasted in the corner.

Three pages from the same fictional job, so you can see the actual structure and language before you order — not just take our word for it.

Who Else Does This

The market splits three ways. Docket is none of them.

Docket is
  • Someone with real conservation trade experience, writing it himself
  • Priced once, per job
  • Written from your real building and your real brief
  • Usually back in your inbox the same day
Docket isn't
  • Software you have to learn
  • A monthly subscription
  • A generic template with your logo on it
  • An AI draft you're left to check yourself

WhoWhat they actually arePriceWhere Docket wins
RAMS software A template library or form‑builder. Built for firms with an office and an H&S manager. You still do the writing. Monthly subscription No software to learn after a 10‑hour day. No monthly fee, forever, for a template.
AI RAMS generators A model drafts it in minutes. You still have to check it — that's their own advice, not ours. They cite statute (CDM, COSHH, PUWER), not conservation guidance. Monthly subscription We cite BS 8221, BS 7913 and SPAB — what a conservation officer actually reads for. "The AI drafted it" isn't a defence if something goes wrong.
Generic RAMS writers A remote H&S consultant. Knows the law, has never handled the material. Turnaround measured in days, not hours. Priced per document Docket's writer has actually handled the material on real jobs, not just specified it from a desk. Still usually same day.
Docket Someone who's worked in stonemasonry and architectural conservation writes your documents from your real job brief, usually the same day, priced per job. from £275 The only one at this table with real hands‑on conservation experience behind the document — and honest about the limits of it.

Why generic paperwork gets bounced

a.

Principal contractors spot a copy‑paste RAMS in seconds. Wrong site name, hazards that don't apply, ladder controls on a job with fixed scaffold. A document written from your real brief has none of that.

b.

Accreditation assessors want your real work, not a download. CHAS and SafeContractor both ask for RAMS relevant to the work you actually do. A generic template is a common reason applications get bounced first time.

c.

Conservation officers read the method first. Lime, not cement. Gentlest effective clean. Like‑for‑like repair. Get that language wrong and you look like the wrong contractor before you've picked up a trowel.

How It Works

Four steps, most of them ours.

I

Send the brief ~5 min

Building, listing status, scope of works, materials and methods, any known risks. A voice note works fine too — email it to brief@getdocket.co.uk or text/WhatsApp 07849 563871 instead of using the form below.

II

We draft it Usually same day

Full package, properly formatted in your own branding, built for this job rather than lifted from a generic library. Cites the standards a reviewer actually expects: BS 8221, BS 7913, SPAB, Historic England, plus the relevant statute.

III

You review it

Flag anything that doesn't match how you work. Corrections are included — free, and no delay.

IV

It lands as a finished PDF

Ready to sign, send to the principal contractor, or file for your own accreditation record.

Same‑day is the default, not a paid rush option — it's built into the base price of every package above, not sold back to you as an upsell.

Included With Every Full Package

A living progress record for your client.

Your client stops calling for updates.

Think of it like tracking a parcel — except your client watches the job move: condition record done, cleaning done, repointing under way.

  1. You tick off a stage from your phone — takes about as long as sending a text.
  2. The page updates itself — nobody has to build or refresh anything.
  3. Your client just looks — no password, no app, just a link you send once at the start.

Every Full Package includes this. Bought on its own, it's a flat £95 one‑off. No monthly fee, ever — we're not software, so we don't bill like software.

Who Writes It

One tradesperson. The same paperwork filed for his own jobs.

Docket started as one contractor's own problem: a real masonry conservation business losing evenings to paperwork that generic software didn't understand, and heritage compliance consultants charged too much to write properly. This is what got built instead — then opened up to other heritage trades running into exactly the same wall.

Docket is written by someone with a real background in stonemasonry and architectural conservation and restoration, based in Norwich — not a desk‑based consultant who's only ever read about the trade. These are the same documents filed for real contracts: written for principal contractors who bounce anything generic, and conservation officers who read the method before the risk table.

Every method in these documents — poultice cleaning, steam cleaning, dry brushing — has been worked by hand, on real stone, on real jobs. Not summarised from a manual.

One straight commitment: if a job involves a method not personally worked, that gets said plainly, and checked against the published standards rather than bluffed. That's how a document stays credible.

Pricing

Priced per job, not per month.

Flat prices, built in the open. Pick the package, tick what the job actually involves, and the total on the docket is the total — no quote wait, no range. Every base price covers one elevation or area, one hazard category, standard access (ladders or tower scaffold) and up to three operatives; step 2 adds anything beyond that.

Weighed against what a bounced submission or a slipped start date actually costs, the total below is small change.

Beyond The Core Five

The paperwork a heritage job needs beyond site RAMS.

Condition‑discharge method statements, CDM Construction Phase Plans, PQQ/SSIP support, hot works permits and maintenance guides are all priced directly in the calculator above — pick the tier or add‑on that matches the job. One thing worth knowing separately:

Not (Yet) Offered

Full Heritage Statements and protected‑species (bat) method statements need accreditation Docket doesn't hold. Happy to point you to someone who does rather than write outside what's real.

Straight Answers

The things you'd ask before sending money.

Will a principal contractor actually accept these?

That's what we write for. PCs reject documents for being generic — wrong site name, hazards that don't apply, controls that don't match the method. Every Docket document starts from your real brief. Corrections during review are free; a reissue for changed scope later is £50 flat.

Can I use them for CHAS, SafeContractor or other SSIP accreditation?

Yes — SSIP assessors ask for RAMS relevant to the work you actually do, which is exactly what Docket produces. We can't promise an assessor's decision, and won't pretend to. What we produce is the kind of evidence that passes.

I'm not a stonemason. Is this still for me?

Yes, if you work on traditional buildings — lime plasterers, timber‑frame carpenters, thatchers, flint workers, blacksmiths. Same materials, same conservation officers, same standards. On steel‑frame new‑build, honestly, we're not your cheapest option.

Do you only do RAMS and the core five documents?

No — Docket also writes condition‑discharge method statements for listed building consent conditions, CDM Construction Phase Plans for principal contractors, PQQ/SSIP application support, hot works permits, and a client‑facing maintenance guide. Still heritage and conservation trades only, still one person writing it — just aimed at more of what a real job needs paperwork for. What we won't do: full Heritage Statements or protected‑species surveys, which need accreditation we don't hold.

Why not just use one of the AI generators?

They draft in minutes, then hand you the checking — by their own admission. If you can properly check a heritage RAMS, you could have written it yourself. If you can't, the speed didn't help. Docket's draft is checked before it reaches you, by someone who's done the work it describes.

Who's responsible for the finished document?

You are. The duty holder stays the duty holder, however a RAMS is produced — anyone who says otherwise is selling something. What changes with Docket: a method that actually describes your work, with anything that doesn't add up flagged before it goes out under your name.

What if a conservation officer or principal contractor queries something after delivery?

If it's our error — something we got wrong — that's fixed free, no argument. If it's new information or a scope change that's come up since delivery, that's a £50 flat revision, same as any other change. Either way you're not left to sort it out alone: get in touch and we'll deal with it.

Do I own the finished document?

Yes, once it's paid for — it's yours to use, edit and reissue for the job it was written for. No ongoing licence, no restriction on reusing it.

Will my job end up in your marketing?

No. Nothing you send is published, shown to other clients, or reused as a sample. Every example on this page is invented for illustration — and that's deliberate.

Is it really same‑day, always?

Usually, and that's the honest word for it. One person writes every document, from your real brief — if that person's on site all day when your brief comes in, it might land the next morning instead. You'll be told straight away if that's the case, not left guessing. The one exception is the Completion Report in a Full Package — that's written once the job's actually finished, not on day one with the rest.

When do I pay?

Before drafting starts, not on delivery — see Pricing above for the full policy.

What if I need to cancel?

Full refund if you cancel before drafting starts. Once drafting's begun, the fee isn't refundable — the work's been done by then, which is exactly why scope gets confirmed with you first, not after. Full policy in the Terms of Business.
